A Dictionary of All Religions and Religious Denominations/Encratites

ENCRATITES, or Continents, a sect in the second or third century, who condemned marriage; forbade the eating of flesh, or the drinking of wine; rejected all the comforts and conveniences of life, and practised great mortification of the body. They appear to have been a branch of the Manicheans.[1]
