Author:Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton
American bryologist, educator, and one of the founding leaders of the New York Botanical Garden, the Sullivant Moss Society, and the Wild Flower Preservation Society of America; published more than 340 scientific papers and was editor of the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club. She had 15 species and one moss genus (Bryobrittonia), named after her. In 1885, she married Dr. Nathaniel Lord Britton.

- § 120. Albinism. — I found on the shores of Elizabeth Pond, in the Adirondacks, Aug. 16th, a great many plants of Pontederia cordata, L., bearing white flowers. In several of the patches where the blue and white were mixed, the latter were in the majority. I also noted along the road near Indian River P. O. a patch of white-flowered Epilobium angustifolium. - Submersed Leaves in Limnanthemum. — The fact that thin root-leaves occur on Nuphar pumilum, Smith, and occasionally on N. advena, Ait., has long been known and is on record; but, that the floating heart {Limnanthemum lacunosum, Griseb.) may bear similar leaves, has, I believe, been hitherto unnoticed. However, in two specimens of this plant collected at Wellington, Nova Scotia, in 1879, there are found four such leaves, 3 by 2½ in., of a delicate texturer, diaphanous, and of a light green color with a tinge of red. They show a well-marked venation, have a broader sinus than the floating leaves, and are borne on short petioles. ELIZABETH G. KNIGHT..
