Gerrit Muller
(1891–1938)

Gerrit Muller born 1891 in Amsterdam, Holland. As a young man in Holland he tried to unionize the Dutch Navy. Gerrit traveled to the United States on the Homer City as a sailor, (member of the crew). He entered the United States on November 18, 1920 through Ellis Island. He was 29 years old. Gerrit moved to Sacramento, California and started a tile setting business with his brother. At the age of 38 Garrit married Lila Whisman and had two daughters, Katherina Lila Muller and Kato Florence Muller. In 1937 Gerrit Muller traveled on the Queen Mary to Spain. He joined the Abraham Lincoln Brigade fighting the fascists and Franco during the Spanish Civil War. The specifics about Gerrit's death in Spain is not known, but it is assumed that he was killed during battle sometime in 1938.
