PSALME I. edit

1 The happineſſe of the godly. 4 The vnhappineſſe of the vngodly.

Leſſed ** Prou. 4. 14. is the man that walketh not in the counſell of the ǁǁ Or, wicked. vngodly, nor ſtandeth in the way of ſinners, nor ſitteth in the ſeat of the ſcornefull.

² But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, ** Ioſh. 1. 8. pſal. 119. 1. iere. 17. 8. and in his Law doeth he meditate day and night.

³ And he ſhalbe like a tree planted by the riuers of water, that bringeth foorth his fruit in his ſeaſon, his leafe alſo ſhall not †† Hebr. fade. wither, and whatſoeuer he doeth, ſhall proſper.

⁴ The vngodly are not ſo: but are ** Pſal. 34. 5. iſa. 17. 13. like the chaffe, which the winde driueth away.

⁵ Therefore the vngodly ſhall not ſtand in the iudgement, nor ſinners in the Congregation of the righteous.

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the vngodly ſhall periſh.

PSAL. II. edit

1 The kingdome of Chriſt. 10 Kings are exhorted to accept it.

Hy ** Acts. 4. 25. do the heathen ǁǁ Or, tumultuouſly aſſemble? rage, and the people †† Hebr. meditate. imagine a vaine thing?

² The Kings of the earth ſet themſelues, and the rulers take counſell together, againſt the Lord, and againſt his Anoynted, ſaying,

³ Let vs breake their bandes aſunder, and caſt away their cords from vs.

⁴ ** Prou. 1. 26. Hee that ſitteth in the heauens ſhal laugh: the Lord ſhall haue them in deriſion.

⁵ Then ſhall hee ſpeake vnto them in his wrath, and ǁǁ Or, trouble. vexe them in his ſore diſpleaſure.

⁶ Yet haue I ſet †† Hebr. anointed. my King †ǁ Hebr. vpon Sion, the hill of my Holineſſe. vpon my holy hill of Sion.

⁷ ** Acts. 13. 33. heb. 1. 5. I will declare ǁǁ Or, for a decree. the decree: the Lord hath ſaid vnto mee, Thou art my ſonne, this day haue I begotten thee.

⁸ ** Pſal. 72. 8. Aſke of me, and I ſhall giue thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the vttermoſt parts of the earth for thy poſſeſſion.

⁹ ** Apoc. 2. 27. and 19. 15. Thou ſhalt breake them with a rod of iron, thou ſhalt daſh them in pieces like a potters veſſell.

¹⁰ Bee wiſe now therefore, O yee Kings: be inſtructed ye Iudges of the earth.

¹¹ Serue the Lord with feare, and reioyce with trembling.

¹² Kiſſe the Sonne leſt he be angry, and ye periſh from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little: ** Prou. 16. 20. iſa. 30. 18. iete. 17. 7. rom. 9. 33 and 10. 11. 1. pet. 2. 6. Bleſſed are all they that put their truſt in him.

PSAL. III. edit

The ſecuritie of Gods protection

¶ ** 2.Sam. 15.15. A Pſalme of Dauid when he fled from Abſalom his ſonne.

Ord, how are they increaſed that trouble mee? many are they that riſe vp againſt me.

² Many there bee which ſay of my ſoule, There is no helpe for him in God. Selah.

³ But thou, O Lord, art a ſheild ǁǁ Or, about for me; my glory, and the lifter vp of mine head.

⁴ I cryed vnto the Lord with my voyce, and he heard me out of holy hill. Selah.

⁵ ** Pſal.4.9 I layd me downe and ſlept: I awaked, for the Lord ſuſtained me.

⁶ ** Pſal.27.3 I will not be afraid of ten thouſands of people, that haue ſet themſelues againſt me round about.

⁷ Ariſe, O Lord, ſaue mee, O my God; for thou haſt ſmitten all mine enemies vpon the cheeke bone: thou haſt broken the teeth of the vngodly.

⁸ ** Iſa. 43.11. Hoſ.I3.4. Saluation belongeth vnto the LORD, thy bleſſing is vpon thy people. Selah.

PSAL. IIII. edit

1 Dauid prayeth for audience. 2 He reproueth and exhorteth this enemies. 6 Mans happineſſe is in Gods fauour.

¶ To The ǁǁ Or, ouerſeer. chiefe Muſician on Neginoth, A Pſalme of David.

Eare me, when I call, O God of my righteouſneſſe: thou haſt inlarged mee when I was in diſtreſſe, ǁǁ Or, bee gracious vnto me. haue mercy vpon me, and heare my prayer.

² O ye ſonnes of men, how long will yee turne my glory into ſhame? how long will yee loue vanitie, and ſeeke after leaſing? Selah.

³ But know that Lord hath ſet apart him that is godly, for himſelfe: the Lord will heare when I call vnto him.

⁴ Stand in awe, and ſinne not: commune with your owne heart vpon your bed, and be ſtill. Selah.

⁵ Offer ** Pſal.50.14.& 51.19 the ſacrifices of righteouſneſſe, and put your truſt in the Lord.

⁶ There be many that ſay, Who wil ſhew vs any good? Lord lift thou vp the light of thy countenance vpon us.

⁷ Thou haſt put gladneſſe in my heart, more then in the time that their corne and their wine increaſed.

⁸ ** Pſal.3.5 I will both lay mee downe in peace, and ſleepe: for thou Lord only makeſt me dwell in ſafetie.

PSAL. V. edit

1 Dauid prayeth, and profeſſeth his ſtudie in prayer. 4 God fauoureth not the wicked. 7 David profeſsing his faith, prayeth vnto God, to guide him, 10 To deſtroy his enemies, 11 and to preſerue the godly.

¶ To the chiefe muſician vpon Nehiloth, A Pſalme of Dauid

Iue eare to my words, O Lord, conſider my meditation.

² Hearken vnto the voice of my crie, my King, and my God: for vnto thee will I pray.

³ ** Pſal.130.6 My voyce ſhalt thou heare in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer vnto thee, and will looke vp.

⁴ For thou art not a God that hath pleaſure in wickedneſſe: neither ſhall euil dwell with thee.

⁵ The foolish ſhall not ſtand †† Heb. before thine eyes. in thy ſight: thou hateſt al workers of iniquity

⁶ Thou ſhalt deſtroy them that ſpeake leaſing: the Lord will abhorre the †† Heb. the man of bloods and deceit. bloodie and deceitfull man.

⁷ But as for me, I will come into thy houſe in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy feare will I worſhip toward †† Heb. the temple of thy holineſſe. thy holy temple.

⁸ Lead me O Lord, in thy righteouſneſſe, becauſe of †† Heb. thoſe which obſerue me. mine enemies; make thy way ſtraight before my face.

⁹ For there is no ǁǁOr, ſtedfaſtneſſe. faithfulnes †† Heb. in his mouth. i. in the mouth of any of them. in their mouth, their inward part is †† Heb. wickedneſſes. very wickedneſſe: **Rom.3.13 their throat is an open ſepulchre, they flatter with their tongue.

¹⁰ ǁǁ Or, make them guilty. Deſtroy thou them, O God, let them fall ǁǁ Or, from their counſels. by their owne counſels: caſt them out in the multitude of their tranſgreſſions, for they have rebelled againſt thee.

¹¹ But let all thoſe that put their truſt in thee, reioyce: let them euer ſhout for ioy, becauſe thou †† Heb. thou couereſt over, or protecteſt them. defendeſt them: let them alſo that loue thy name, be ioyfull in thee.

¹² For thou, Lord, wilt bleſſe the righteous: with fauour wilt thou †† Hebr. crowne him, compaſſe him as with a ſhield.

PSAL. VI. edit

1 Dauids complaint in his ſickneſſe.8 By faith he triumpheth ouer his enemies.

¶ To the chiefe muſician on Neginoth ǁǁ Or, vpon the eight. vpon Sheminith, A Pſalme of Dauid.

** Pſa.16.1 Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chaſten me in thy hot diſpleaſure.

² Haue mercy vpon me, O Lord, for I am weake: O Lord heale mee, for my bones are vexed.

³ My ſoule is alſo ſore vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?

⁴ Returne, O Lord, deliuer my ſoule: oh ſaue mee, for thy mercies ſake.

⁵ ** Pſal.30.10. & 88.11 & 115.17. & 118.17. Eſay. 38.18 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the graue who ſhall give thee thankes?

⁶ I am weary with my groning ǁǁ Or, euery night. all the night make I my bed to ſwim: I water my couch with my teares.

⁷ Mine eie is conſumed becauſe of griefe; it waxeth olde becauſe of all mine enemies.

⁸ ** Mar.7.23. & 25.41. Luc.13.27. Depart from me, all yee workers of iniquitie; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.

⁹ The Lord hath heard my ſupplication; the Lord will receiue my prayer.

¹⁰ Let all mine enemies be aſhamed and ſore vexed: let them returne and be aſhamed ſuddainly.

PSAL. VII. edit

1 Dauid prayeth againſt the malice of his enemies, profeſsing his innocency. 10 By faith he ſeeth his defence and the deſtruction of his enemies.

¶ Shiggaion of Dauid; which he ſang vnto the Lord concerning the ǁǁ Or, buſines. words of Cuſh the Beniamite.

Lord, my God, in thee doe I put my truſt: ſaue me from all them that perſsecute me, and deliuer me.

² Leaſt hee teare my ſoule like a lyon, renting it in pieces, while there is †† Heb not a deliuerer. none to deliuer.

³ O Lord my God, if I haue done this; if there be iniquitie in my hands:

⁴ If I haue rewarded euill vnto him that was at peace with me: (yea I haue deliuered him that without cauſe is mine enemie.)

⁵ Let the enemie perſecute my ſoule, and take it, yea let him tread downe my life vpon the earth, and lay mine honour in the duſt. Selah.

⁶ Ariſe, O Lord, in thine anger, lift vp thy ſelfe, becauſe of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the iudgement that thou haſt commanded.

⁷ So ſhall the congregation of the people compaſſe thee about: for their ſakes therefore returne thou on high.

⁸ The Lord ſhal iudge the people, iudge me, O Lord, ** Pſal 18.19. according to my righteouſneſſe, and according to mine integritie that is in me.

⁹ Oh let the wickednes of the wicked come to an end, but eſtabliſh the iust: ** 1.Sam.16.7.1.Chr.28.9.pſal.139.1 Ierem.11.20.and 17.10.and 20.12. for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reines.

¹⁰ †† Heb. my buckler is vpon God. My defence is of God, which ſaueth the vpright in heart.

¹¹ ǁǁ Or, God is a rightoeous Iudge. God iudgeth the righteous, and God is angrie with the wicked euery-day.

¹² If he turne not, he will whet his ſword: he hath bent his bowe, and made it ready.

¹³ He hath alſo prepared for him the inſtruments of death: he ordaineth his arrowes againſt the perſecutors.

¹⁴ ** Iob 15.35.Eſa.59.4 Iam.1.15. Behold, he trauelleth with iniquitie, and hath couceiued miſchiefe, and brought forth falſhood.

¹⁵ †† Heb. hee hath digged a pit. He made a pit and digged it, * * Pſal.9.15. and 10.2. prou.5.22. and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

¹⁶ His miſchiefe ſhall returne vpon his owne head, and his violent dealing ſhall come downe vpon his owne pate.

¹⁷ I will praiſe the Lord according to his righteouſneſſe: and will ſing praiſe to the name of the Lord moſt high.

PSAL. VIII. edit

Gods glory is magnified by his works, and by his loue to man.

¶ To the chiefe Muſicion vpon Gittith, a Pſalme of Dauid

Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who haſt ſet thy glory aboue the heauens.

² ** Mat.21.16.Out of the mouth of babes and ſucklings haſt thou †† Heb. founded. ordained ſtrength, becauſe of thine enemies, that thou mighteſt ſtill the enemie and auenger.

³ When I conſider thy heauens, the worke of thy fingers, the moone and the ſtarres which thou haſt ordained;

⁴ **Iob 7.17. pſal.144.3. Heb.2.6.What is man, that thou art mindfull of him? and the ſonne of man, that thou viſiteſt him?

⁵ For thou haſt made him a little lower then the Angels; and haſt crowned him with glory and honour.

⁶ Thou madeſt him to haue dominion ouer the workes of thy hands; ** 1.Cor.15.27.thou haſt put all things vnder his feete.

⁷ †† Heb.flocks and oxen, all of them. All ſheepe and oxen, yea and the beasſts of the field.

⁸ The foule of the aire, and the fiſh of the ſea, and whatſoever paſſeth through the paths of the ſeas.

⁹ O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

PSAL. IX. edit

1 Dauid prayſeth God for executing of iudgement. 11 He inciteth others to prayſe him. 13 Hee prayeth, that hee may haue cauſe to prayſe him.

¶ To the chiefe muiſician vpon Muth⸗Labben. a Pſalme of Dauid.

wil praiſe thee, O Lord, with my whole heart: I will ſhewe foorth all thy workes.

² I will bee glad and reioyce in thee: I will ſing prayſe to thy name, O thou moſt high.

³ When mine enemies are turned backe, they ſhall fall and periſh at thy preſence.

⁴ For †† Hebr.thou haſt made my iudgement. thou haſt maintained my right, and my cauſe: thou ſateſt in the throne iudging †† Hebr.in righteouſnes right.

⁵ Thou haſt rebuked the heathen, thou haſt deſtroyed the wicked; thou haſt put out their name for euer and euer.

² Praiſe him for his mightie actes: Praiſe him according to his excellent greatneſſe.

³ Praiſe him with the ſound of the ǁǁ Or, Cornet. Trumpet: Prayſe him with the Pſalterie and Harpe.

⁴ Praiſe him with the timbrell and ǁǁ Or, Pipe. dance: praiſe him with ſtringed inſtruments, and Organes.

⁵ Praiſe him upon the loud cymbals: praiſe him upon the high ſounding cymbals.

⁶ Let euery thing that hath breath, praiſe the LORD. Praiſe yee the LORD.
