Sowerby was the original author for this species. There is confusion between Lepista flaccida and the similar L. inversa, the main difference being that L. flaccida occurs in broad-leaved woods and L. inversa in coniferous ones. The picture shows a broad-leaved environment but Sowerby mentions that the mushroom in common in pine woods, so he evidently considered the two species to be the same.
