But now, old friend, all journeying For us will soon be over ;
Sorrow has built a sombre bridge With piers of churchyard clover,
Till, blended as they used to be, Our shadows, longer growing,
Lie yonder on the other side, Over the white snow showing
A bended head, a planted staff, Nor trees nor kerchief blowing ;
The Shadow lies behind us, friend The light, the way we re going.

1 NEVER knew an angel, Except the ones in books ; I don t believe a mortal
Knows how an angel looks. We guess at something misty
With trailing wings of white, With amber tresses floating, And garments strangely bright.
But I believe earth s angels Walk here in mortal guise,
Though we discern but faintly Through heavy-lidded eyes,
