GENERAL AND
VENTILATING WATERPROOF

DISCOVERERS OF THE TRUE BURMESE JAPAN

Inventors, Patentees, and sole Manufacturers of the elegant and serviceable

PATENT PARAPLUVIAL SILKS

At present worn by Her Majesty, and Prince Albert, and also at the courts
of France and Belgium;

These being the lightest and most portable of all Waterproofs and decidedly the only Waterproof for Ladies worthy of notice;

Beg most respectfully to announce publicly that, with the facilities afforded by their complete and extensive Manufactory, at Deptford, they are now fully prepared to meet the growing demand for Articles made in accordance with the above-named valuable Improvements and Inventions; as also to execute Wholesale, on Foreign Orders in all those other Waterproofs with which the Public are more intimately acquainted.

The LYCOPODIUM VENTILATIING SYSTEM of WATERPROOFING cannot be too much advertised,—possessing, as it is allowed to do, immeasurable advantages over every other process of the sort. Woollen Cloths thus prepared have, in the presence of Dr. Ure, and other scientific gentlemen, withstood water thrown with the full force of the London Fire Engines. Many high and important Testimonials have been received of its superior efficacy. None have ever been submitted to so severe a test. The meshes of a lace sieve, so open as to allow mustard seed to pass freely through, will retain cold, and even boiling water.

The BURMESE COMPOSITION is applicable for the Saturating of Canvasses for Waggon Cover. Linens, for Capes, Sackings, Rick, Tent, and Marquee Cloths, Sunblinds, and an immense other of useful purposes. These Preparations are now becoming extensively used by the various trades to which they severally refer. A Composition, or mode of Dressing Canvasses for Dock Use, Shipping, Carriers’ Use, and Railway Carriage Covers, which should be impervious to wet, yet not grow harsh, nor rot the fibre of the woven fabric has always been a desideratum. The excellence of this discovery, which resists the ordinary sources of decay leaves nothing further to be desired. Nor is it more costly than the other inferior methods in use.

N.& Co. beg leave further to remark that the original position upon which they started in Cripplegate Buildings, was to collect together all that was really valuable or useful in the art of Waterproofing, to form. It were a focus of the scattered rays constantly manifesting themselves in the various localities, and purveying thus for the public taste, furnish at one view the means of choosing and judging of those sorts best calculated for every individual want. This plan has not been hitherto adopted by any other establishment in the trade and the acknowledged convenience it has afforded to purchasers, whose choice is otherwise distracted by the many varieties of which they hear but have no opportunity of seeing, induces N.& Co. to extend their plan. With this view, they have opened these commodious and eligible Premises, 34, King William Street: where the Retail Department of the Business will be carried on, and upon terms that cannot possibly fail on giving satisfaction to those who wish to have sterling value, and sterling Articles for their money.
