CHAPTER 2

AN ACT To amend Public Law 78, Eis^lity-first Congress, first session (t>3 Stat. I l l), to provide for an Under Secretary of State for Administration.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 1 of the Act of May 26, 1949 (68 Stat. I l l; 5 U.S.C. 151a), is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following: "Until December 31, 1954, unless the office shall be abolished sooner by the President, there shall be in the Department of State an Under Secretary of State for zVdministration who shall be appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, and who shall take precedence in the Department of State next after the Secretary and the Under Secretary. The Under Secretary of State for Administration shall receive compensation at the rate of $17,500 per annum, and shall perform such duties and exercise such administrative powders as the Secretary of State may prescribe." AN ACT To amend the Reorganization Act of 1949 so that such Act will apply to reorganization plans transmitted to the Congress at any time before April 1, 1955.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That subsection (b) of section 5 of the Reorganization Act of 1949 (5 U.S.C. sec. 133z-3 (b)) is hereby amended by striking out "April 1, 1953" and inserting in lieu thereof "April 1, 1955", Approved February 11. 1953. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Act entitled "An Act to suspend certain import taxes on copper", approved May 22, 1951 (Public Law 38, Eighty-second Congress), is hereby amended by striking out "February 15, 1953, or the termination of the national emergency proclaimed by the President on December 16, 1950, whichever is earlier" and inserting in lieu thereof "June 30, 1954".
