Private Law 89-229 AN ACT For the relief of Joseph B. Stevens.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Joseph B. S tJ o see p h ev ns. Stevens, of Warner Robins, Georgia, is relieved of liability to pay to the United States the sum of $1,256.78, representing the amount of salary overpayment received by him from the Department of the Air Force for the period from February 23, 1958, through October 20, 1962, due to adminstrative error and without fault on his part. In the audit and settlement of the accounts of any certifying or disbursing officer of the United States, full credit shall be given for the amount for which liability is relieved by this section. SEC. 2. The Secretary of the Treasury shall pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Joseph B. Stevens, of Warner Robins, Georgia, the sum certified to him by the Secretary of the A i r Force as the aggregate of amounts paid to the United States by Joseph B. Stevens and amounts withheld by the United States from sums otherwise due him from the United States, on account of the liability referred to in the first section of this Act. No part of the amount appropriated in this section shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of the preceding sentence shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Private Law 89-230 AN ACT For the relief of the estate of Robert A. Ethridge.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to the estate oi Robert A. Ethridge, late of Macon, Georgia, the sum of $2,064.07 in full settlement of the claims of such estate against the United States arising out of nonpayment, by reason of lapse of time, of certain United States postal money orders dated before 1944 and held by said Robert A. Ethridge at the time of his death. Payment of the amount authorized by this Act shall be conditioned upon a surrender of the money orders which are the basis of the claims discharged thereby. No part of the amount appropriated in this Act in excess of 20 per centum thereof shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved March 18, 1966.
