ffQ provide for the designation of the week of October 17 through October 23, 1982, as "Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Week".
Whereas the incidence and prevalence of myasthenia gravis present a significant health problem in the United States; Whereas myasthenia gravis is a severe neuromuscular disorder, characterized by weakness of the voluntary muscles of the body; Whereas an estimated one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand diagnosed, and over one hundred thousand undiagnosed, Americans of both sexes, and all races and ages, are afflicted with the disease; Whereas the Nation faces a continuing need to support innovative research into the causes, treatment, and cure of myasthenia gravis; Whereas it is appropriate to focus the Nation's attention upon the problem of myasthenia gravis: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Myasthenia States of America in Congress assembled, That the week of October AwienessWeek ^'^ through October 23, 1982, is designated as "Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Week" and the President of the United States is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon all government agencies and the people of the United States to observe the week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
