Talk:Bible (King James)/Genesis

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Jan.Kamenicek in topic Punctuation, Genesis 1:1

I got this from the bible-kjv Debian package. Doubtless this could be made less tedious with a little scripting.

I have no plans to enter any more books. Please feel free to add all the rest. —Ashley Y 11:14, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I want to bust this up into chapters, and put a table of contents here like the french page. Donnie Love 02:19, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • If no one objects, I`m going to begin to do that. Donnie Love 02:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • I would advise at this time not to do that without consulting with the members of Wikisource:WikiProject Bible. They might have some input about splitting the book up into different chapters--I believe the system we already have for the KJV Bible allows us to quite easily link to a particular passage (like Genesis 42:4) on another project with very little effort; I believe that use is fairly widespread on WP right now. My own take on this is unless the KJV actually has the divisions like the French WS is using (I don't have this version here in my house, so I can't check) then we should not organize the Bible according to that system. We should only use the system presented in the actual edition of the work, not one that we give it.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 02:20, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • The current format--all chapters on one page, means that the Wikipedia template sourcetext, which is being used extensively to link to KJV versions of the Bible, various Mormon texts, etc, works properly. If it gets split into seperate pages (which, if it happens, should be subpages of the book), the template will stop working... So, I think it would be a better idea if it remains as unsplit as it currently is... Jude (talk, contribs, email) 02:45, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm calling attention to the recent vandalism. I apologize for not having the time to correct it. 213.112.224.149 20:25, 12 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation, Genesis 1:1 edit

If I'm understanding this project correctly, the idea is that the Wikisource text's punctuation should match that found in the scan used as a source for the project. If so, the comma after "form" should be removed in Genesis 1:2. For the moment, I will go ahead and remove that comma, and my intention is to do similarly as I continue proofreading.

However, if there is some sort of style reason that would forbid bringing the punctuation in line with the 1769 exemplar, please let me know and I will stop doing this. MPlasky (talk) 23:41, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Until and unless I hear back, I think I'll keep a comparable list of comma removals and other similar corrections below, in case anyone needs to review them:MPlasky (talk) 03:21, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Genesis 2:9, comma removal. 3:10, change "myself" to "my self". MPlasky
@MPlasky: Hello. If you find a typo, feel free to correct it to match the scan any time. Ideally, you can proofread more pages from Index:KJV 1769 Oxford Edition, vol. 1.djvu. If needed, just ask for help either at my talk page or at WS:Scriptorium/Help. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 11:28, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
