Talk:Catholic Encyclopedia (1913)/Theatines

Saint Giuseppe Maria Tomasi edit

The original text of The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. XIV (page 557) lists Blessed Giuseppe Maria Tomasi among the cardinals that were members of the Theatines. Blessed Giuseppe Maria Tomasi was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 12, 1986. For information regarding the canonization of St. Giuseppe Maria Tomasi, please refer to the Vatican News Service at:www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/saints/ELENCO_SANTI_GPII.htm or www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/saints/ns_lit_doc_19861012_tomasi_it.html

While some have suggesting changing the online text of The Catholic Encyclopedia to reflect this subsequent canonization, to do so would violate the integrity of the ordinal text, although admittedly not the authors' desire for accuracy. To maintain integrity of the text, while providing accurate information, I recommend that these type of editorial changes be made by including the updated information in the discussion page that accompanies the article along with appropriate reference. unsigned comment by Saint Wiki I (talk) 04:40, 21 November 2007.

I agree that we want to maintain the fidelity of our copy. If we dont keep to the original, readers will worry that our copy varies from the original in other ways as well, and our texts will become almost worthless. Mentioning that it is out of date on this talk page should be enough. John Vandenberg 11:01, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
