On copyright edit
The 1948 paper should appear in the Stanford databases if it was registered in 1948; I could not found it.
It should appear in the renewals of 1975/6/7. I havent checked those images under the books sections, however I did check the images for periodicals, and Review of Metaphysics (an American publication) doesnt appear in there as renewed either.
AFICS, the (Renewal: RE095586) in 1981 cant cover this because 17USC408 says "the renewal application and fee are received not more than twentyeight or less than twenty-seven years after the thirty-first day of December of the calendar year in which all of the works were first published".
