CATTELL′, James McKeen (1860—). An American psychologist, born at Easton, Pa. He graduated at Lafayette College in 1880, and at the University of Leipzig in 1886, and was a lecturer at the University of Cambridge in 1888. From 1888 to 1891 he was professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, from 1891 to 1896 professor of experimental psychology at Columbia University, and in 1896 was appointed professor of psychology in the latter institution. He is a member of many learned societies at home and abroad, and edits Science and The Popular Science Monthly.
