GROTTE, grṓt'tắ. A town in the Province of Girgenti, Sicily, 13 miles northeast of the city of Girgenti. Sulphur-mining is the principal industry (Map: Italy, H 10). Population of commune, in 1881, 8808; in 1901, 11,039.
