Obituary
We regret to announce the death of Mr. John Goldworth Alger, which took place on Thursday, at his residence, 7, Holland-park-court, West Kensington. Mr. Alger was born at Diss, Norfolk, in 1836, and became a journalist at the age of 16 on the Norfolk News and Oxford Journal. In 1868 he joined the Parliamentary staff of The Times, and was transferred to Paris in 1874 to assist M. de Blowitz. While there he had access to the National Archives and discovered and utilized many interesting documents that had never before seen the light. Mr. Alger was the author of the "New Paris Sketch Book," "Glimpses of the French Revolution," "Paris, 1789-94" (translated into French), and "Napoleon's British Visitors and Captives." He retired from the The Times at the end of 1902 with a pension.
