Mr. F. M. O'Donoghue
Mr. Freeman Marius O'Donoghue, late Assistant Keeper in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum, died on Monday at his chambers in Ryder-street, St. James's, not long before his 81st birthday.
Though he came of Irish stock, Mr. O'Donoghue was a Londoner by birth and long residence. When he was about 17 he entered the Department of Prints and Drawings as a junior assistant, and served there for 40 years, ending his career as Assistant Keeper under the late Sir Sidney Colvin. He specialized in portraits, and was requested by the Trustees to stay on beyond the usual age limit in order that he might finish a special catalogue on which he was engaged. He had been a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries for many years. Mr. O'Donoghue, who was unmarried, took no interest in sport. His recreations were confined to reading and walking, and he seldom left London save for an occasional visit to Bath. He was constantly at the Reform Club of which he had been a member for a long period.
