Active author link

Gday Chuck. Generally we would not override the author link in {{header}} where it is an individual, generally use that for organisations and the like. If you don't know author details, that is okay as every so often we will run a check, find redlink authors, and look to create an author page, and determine what biographical information is available. . -- billinghurst (talk) 02:32, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Moved files

I moved the work to our preferred nomenclature of naming, and will soon create an overarching redirect page, that can become a disambiguation page if we get another work of the same name. Further, at WS we are happy to have pages built in the main namespace, rather than in user subpages. If that is to be done, we just ask that {{incomplete}} by used on front pages. Similarly, if you have a scan of the work, then have a look-see at Help:DjVu files to see what other options exist for uploading and hosting works. -- billinghurst (talk) 23:58, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi. One of your images was deleted at Commons, and hence the bot has removed the text http://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=A_General_History_for_Colleges_and_High_Schools_%28Myers%29/Chapter_1,_pp._8-17&diff=prev&oldid=1229336 . If the image was in the public domain, I would suggest following the link to the person who deleted the file and ask them to repatriate it. I haven’t edited in a while because the proofreading was starting to take too much time. Also, I somehow sprained my index finger, and, in case it was from the touch pad, I got a mouse for my laptop. Before I type the book any more, I think I’ll study the welcome info above when I’m at this site. I also intend to read the instructions of the PDF creator I downloaded. Maybe there’s a way to set a PDF of a scanned book so it’s possible to convert it to HTML. The picture someone deleted was low quality because I took it with my cell phone. I now know how to scan a picture. I might upload a scan of the picture, since it was from the book. I also started studying a site that tells about HTML because that is rather interesting as well as an old grammar and composition book. The history book I’ve been typing is the 1890 edition. I notice Google has the 1901 and later editions so I’ll put a link to the 1901 for until I finish uploading the 1890 edition.--ChuckyTC 20:04, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Any particular reason that this has been uploaded to WS, rather than Commons. We have a general preference for files to be at Commons, so they can be used cross wiki. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:06, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

I put a copy of the scan of Chapter One on Commons as well, and on Commons there is no link to the Scan’s index page. So, I still suppose the chapter scans are meant to be kept here at Wikisource.-- Chucky 02:57Z15Feb2010

Everything has something to do with Commons, as it is all interrelated. Generally the only files that we load to Wikisource, are files that cannot be loaded to Commons due to difference in copyright approach. Files if uploaded to Commons:File:Document.pdf become Wikisource:File:Document.pdf, and have links automated here. If you want to further link from Commons to Wikisource, then it is the simple matter of prepending links, either as s:... or :en:s:...
