Hi again. I looked through the book and saw that there are many references to Literary Notes at the end of the book. I saw that now you are handling with {{sups}}. So, just an update: I skipped ahead to get the Literary Index in place, and then created a new template so I could link to it effectively. I've replaced all of the {{sup}} templates with {{IOD}}, and I think it's much better! Look okay to you? – GorillaWarfare (talk) 22:50, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Not that I am an expert in the field ... I asked the question myself for the first time when looking at this work and found the post. So I suggested it to you. Looks OK. The only remark I can make ("if" I can, as I have no clue on how to fix it ...) is that the link is working in one direction only, i. e. it is not possible to come back from notes to text. Hm, I'm not sure. Because the sources are referenced multiple times in the text, it would probably have to be done in the "a,b,c" format that reflist uses. I don't know how I would do that other than manually... – GorillaWarfare (talk) 03:29, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

That is old style, the guidance is at Help:Proofread#Formatting conventions, basically we user named <ref> tags, though with a twist. Examples follow, and the name used is not important, you just need to use the name consistently for all parts of the ref. To note that a name in ref should not start with a number, it is just problematic. Note that I have done the following on some of the pages.

• first ref … <ref name=p140>blah blah</ref>, and I usually use the page number of the first page of the extended reference
• second and subsequent … <ref follow=p140>blah blah</ref>

Note that <ref> tags stop some of the normal wiki actions, so I actually use <ref name="p140">blah blah</ref> and <ref follow="p140">blah blah</ref> which will convert it to tags, and yet do any internal expansions of substituted templates, etc. Give me a yell if it isn't making sense. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:56, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

If I "follow :-)" you, this is how to handle a reference through different pages. But can this concept also be used to handle notes at the end of a work?

The goal we were trying to achieve above in case all notes are at the end of a work was: a bidirectional link from "page with note ref" to "page with note text" and back (same effect as you obtain with notes on same page, even though ref tag and reflist are far away). If you llok at Literary Index, you can't come back to the page where the note was called.—unsigned comment by Mpaa (talk) .

For these pages, you need to take a different approach (he says without seeing how it is being used in the main part of the work). Have a look what I have done with {{IrishBio ref}}, which is built upon another of my creations {{authority reference}}. If there are only a smaller number to do for the work, we can use the latter template directly, if you have quite a few references, then we can build a template specifically for the work, like I did. On the authorities page on the work (your link) we would add wrap each authority in a section tag, with an anchor outside of that. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:45, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, Billinghurst! I had tried to figure out how to do it, but was having no luck. That definitely seems to make more sense. Also, thank you for validating a few of the pages! Mpaa, Billinghurst was indeed talking about how to do extended refs. Pentagon Papers

Heya, i have this page, which contains the "Stimulating Poem". In order to preserve the style and order in which it was written, the line breaks need to be formatted as the source was, in a centered format. Dreams, redux

Hi GW, just noticed all your impressive work on The Interpretation of Dreams. I started working on validation (no promises about the quantity I can take on, it's a lot of work!) but I will try to knock off a few pages. One question, though: it seems to me that the table of contents (which is transcluded on the index page as well as being part of the text) should ideally have links to the chapters, as opposed to merely the pages. (For instance, the links for "chapter 1" link to the first page of chapter 1, as opposed to the collection of pages that comprise chapter 1.) I see you've made heavy use of Template:TOC link in there, so clearly you've already put some thought into this -- just wanted to check in before making any changes, as I'm never sure exactly what the best practices are around here :)

I'm pretty sure that the names of the chapters in the TOC link to the entire chapter page, whereas the page numbers link to the specific page. Is this what you're talking about?

Aha -- I see what's going on! No, it looks to me like the link from the name and the link from the number both go to the same place, but -- it appears that template has some clever contextual stuff going on:

• If you're looking at the page, and click either of the links, it takes you to the page
• If you're looking at the TOC in the "Introduction" section of the text, the links will take you to the page within the chapter
• If you're looking at the index page, it behaves as though you were looking at the individual page.

This all seems appropriate to me, except possibly the third item; that's what I noticed first. But now that I see that behavior is not duplicated in the second item, I don't really think it's a problem after all. But glad to get to the bottom of it! (As usual, I am impressed with the work of the Wikisourcerer architects.)

On a somewhat related note, I did monkey with the page index a little -- let me know if you like this set of changes (or revert if you don't!) -Pete (talk) 20:15, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Cleanup script

Hi, I see you're using AWB to do basic cleanup on pages. Have a look at Hesperian's cleanup script (somewhere on User:Beeswaxcandle/monobook.js). Because it can be invoked while creating the page, you could avoid double-handling. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 22:44, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
