Turnor

Hi there. Nice to see you active both here and on enWP. I have linked Turnor, Christopher (DNB00) from the page for vol. 57 of the DNB (this is the basic way we track created articles). I meant that Dictionary of National Biography, 1885-1900/Vol 57 Tom - Tytler now links to it. The answer to the other question is "yes" in case the transclusion is as in Turnor, Christopher (DNB00): you should see small page numbers down the left margin, and you can click on those. (There is another transclusion style, and it doesn't work the same way for that method: you'd have to edit the page and grab the address in the Page namespace directly.) DNB vol 39

I noticed that you wrote in your edit summary that you have proofread the text against another version. I presume this is because the local scan is of poor quality. it would make more sense to upload a new version of the scan, then. ThomasV (talk) 17:20, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

If I can butt in - this will happen. The whole DNB project has a legacy of issues from the initial bot uploads. This volume is particularly bad (for omissions and duplications). Since there are 63 volumes it doesn't all happen at once. And for the DNB, unfortunately, the position with existing scans is complicated (and the text is often corrupt in places in the "best" scans). Miraculously, the project made some progress in 2009, and matters are improving through Billinghurst's efforts. Charles Matthews (talk) 17:39, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

I know nothing about uploading versions of the scan, whatever that means. I do know that the images in www.archive.org are in general much clearer than the ones in Wikisource, and that they do obviously relate to the same edition of the book. Even where there is no difference in quality, it helps to have alternative images to help clarify parts that may be slightly obscure. So, I work in the best way I know how. I'm sorry that in trying to be helpful, and explain what I'm doing, I seem to have confused. As for Billinghurst, I have nothing but the highest admiration and regard for the work he is doing. To clarify this all, the bot uploaded from http://www.archive.org/details/dictionarynatio41stepgoog and there was a better choice, http://www.archive.org/details/dictionaryofnati39stepuoft. So it is correct that the scan used should be replaced. (The full story about the scans is at w:User:Charles Matthews/DNB scans, and in some other places.) Thanks for helping keep the place clean. When you find a new page like Author talk:O. Henry with nonsense on it you can use {{sdelete}}. It can also be used for a few types per WS:CSD. JeepdaySock (talk) 11:54, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

If the content not related I ask for the delete. You can find some other hints at Help:Patrolling. You are doing a great job, please feel free to mark "as Patroled" if you feel ok about your review of a page, if it is ok, or if you undo. If your not sure leave it, and someone else will check it.
