Creating sources

• Create the author namespace entry first if it doesn't already exist.
• Create the index page next.
• Create the letter/etc (for the text) page.
• On the letter page, click on each "page" button and create each page namespace entry in turn.
• After each is created, proofread it and then have someone else validate it. To show it's been proofread, open the page in edit mode, scroll to just under the edit summary box, and click the yellow button.

DJVU

• Go to DJVU Zone
• Select the format of the file (such as PDF)
• Select medium resolution and OCR (assume single column) for a PDF file
• This website is going to spit out a "DJVU" file. It is essentially a series of images bundled together, like a book. You can either download the djvu software, or just upload the djvu to commons, and commons will show you the images one by one. It may give you an invalid format error, just keep trying.
• The process is in principle the same process as for other documents, create the file such as:

Index:GeorgeTCoker.djvu and Index:JamesERay.djvu

• For each, in the "Pages: " field, all you need to put in there is <pagelist/> which is a magic command to automatically create links to each page of the DJVU to be transcribed.
• The "Cover image:" parameter may not be useful as this is a bundle of slightly unrelated documents. but if there is a good one among them that could be useful to display there, use the instructions here to display the image: Help:DjVu_files#Displaying_a_particular_page
• If you have the desktop viewer and you asked the any2djvu converter to do OCR on the documents, you might find that you can copy the OCR text from the djvu using the viewer.

As these are "forms" and "records", filled in by people who probably dont want an "Author" page, filling in the "author" field isnt desirable. As a result, I have added some "notes" to Request Pertaining To Military Records 2 - J. E. Ray as an example of what would be helpful to the reader to understand quickly what they are looking at. issues with your sig

Your current sig (first two, above) is implemented with a mix of css and wiki-markup and does not render as you seem to intend under all circumstances. When the sig is rendered in a containing context that is italic — italic due to surrounding wiki-markup with the two-apostrophe-pair technique — MediaWiki parses it differently. Two things occur; a) it's entirely italic, losing the differentiation on the 'R', and b) the color on your username is stripped from the generated code — a span is dropped — and things fallback on the blue/purple color based on the 'visited' status of your user page in the browser (not sure on the 'why', here).

Anyway, the above third and fourth examples implement your sig entirely with css such that it is immune from this; the fourth example is wrapped in apostrophe pairs to no effect. Other all-css implementations would work, i.e. you might prefer to allow the sig to go all-italic, but still control the color. Might as will give that, too;

I guess I am to 'blame' here. Anyway, the new code may be a bit too elaborate, ie: why use <em style="font-style:italic">? EM is italics. You could use span instead of em to stay fully CSS, or just use <em>, or even just <i> for that matter; it shortens the code, but does away with wiki markup and has the same effect. — Edokter • Talk • 12:03, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I just tweaked the #2 version — there was a missing ';' that messed-up the italic-resisting behavior (issue was introduced when I fixed the blue). You took the other version, so you're fine; this is just to fix the example and in case you ever want to use the other version. Sorry this turned into a sea of sigs.
