LEMUEL, VALLEY OF. After three days' journey through the desert bordering the upper waters of the Red Sea, (Gulf of Arabia,) Lehi and his colony reached a small valley wherein they camped and built an altar to the Lord. A river ran through it and emptied into the sea. To the river, Lehi gave the name of Laman, and to the valley, that of Lemuel, after his two eldest sons, remarking to Lemuel "O that thou mightest be like unto this valley, firm and steadfast, and immovable in keeping the commandments of the Lord." After a stay of considerable length, Lehi continued his journey down the shores of the Red Sea. (B. C. 600.)
