IBBITSON (ROBERT), printer in London, (1) Smithfield near the Queen's-Head-Tavern; (2) Near Hosier Lane; (3) Kings Head in the Old Bayley(?). 1646-61. Printed much of the literature of the Commonwealth period, and was joint printer with John Clowes and others of the news-sheet called Perfect Occurrences (1647-49). In 1653 his name was put forward for the office of printer to the Council of State, but the appointment was given to Hills and Field. There are many references to him in the State Papers and Journals of Parliament The third address given above is possibly that of M. Wright, q.v.
