אדר, אידר, אדרא, אידרא m. (אדר נדר v. אדר) a place cut off, circle (cmp. זירה), whence threshing place, barn; also the grain piled up in the barn for threshing; cmp. גורן. Targ. Hos. II, 11 א׳ בעידן at the season of its being piled up; a. fr. - Gen. R. s. 65 the shovel דאפיך אי׳ which upturns the grain in the barn (=prayer avert- ing evil decrees). Ib. (play on אדרת Gen. XXV, 25) מא׳ כקש like chaff from the barn. Ruth R. to III, 3 א׳ אקימתא להיכן where didst thou put up the barn?-- Pl. אידריא, אדרי &c. Dan. II, 35. Targ. I Sam. XXIII, 1; a. e. Cant. אדר II h., אדרא II or אדרא I ch. m. (v. אדר) [thick-leaved, dark] 1) a cedar species, prob. Spanish Jun- iper. R. Hash. 23a אדרא (ם) קדרוס מאי Ms. M. (ed. קתרוס) what is kedros (κeeροα)? Adara. Snh. 108b what is gofer? וכ׳ אמר שילא ר׳ דבי אדרא אמר רב Ar. a Ms. Fl. (v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.); cmp. Gen. R. s. 31; Yalk. Gen. 51. -- Bets. 15b וכ׳ אדר יטע let him plant an edar (allud. to addir &c., Ps. אדרבא, אדרבה (contr. of דרבה על, v. אד־) turn to the stronger side, whence as a dialectic term, on the contrary. Pes. 28a, a. fr. מסתברא איפכא א׳ on the con- trary, the reverse stands to reason. Ib. 77a א׳ אמינא הוה I might have said, 'On the contrary' &c.; a. fr. [Not to be confounded with אדרבא, אדרבה, v. אד־.]
אדרבלא m. (~~~~~~~~, hydraula) player on the hydraulis, organist. - Pl. אדרבלין. Gen. R. s. 50 וכרבלין א׳ וכ׳ there are organists and flute players in the land (or organs and cymbals, v. next w.), and such a land should be destroyed? [Comment. -- Perh. to be read ארדיכלין.] Ib. s. 23 וכ׳ ארדיכולין (ארדיב׳, corr. acc.).
אדרבליס, ארדבליס (trnsp.) m. (~~~~~~~~) water- organ. Y. Succ. V, 55c bot. ארד׳ זה עוגב. Ib. א׳ היה לא וכ׳ there was no organ used in (the) Jerusalem (Temple) because it interferes with the sweetness (melody of the song). -- Pl. אדרבלין; v. foreg. Cmp. הרדוליס.

אדרייני, הדריוני m. Hadrianic, 1) of the town Adria or Hadria in Venetia. Ab. Zar. II, 3 ה׳ חרס (Y. Mish. a. Gem. א׳) earthen ware of Adria (forbidden for use on account of some unknown connection with idolatry, perh. suspected to have been used as wine vessels before they were offered for sale; v. infra). -- 2) referring to Hadrian, Hadrianic. Ib. 32a explain. הד׳ חרס 'earthen vessels soaked with wine, and distrib- uted in pieces, by order of Hadrian, among the soldiers to be diluted with water for drinking. - 3) (genit. of Hadrianus) Hadrian's (followers).
