אזדא f. (foreg.) [it is] decreed (cmp. גזרה). Dan. II, 5. - B. Mets. 116b if the landlord said, I let you this loft (as it is) א׳ it is a (divine) decree, i. e. it is the tenant s misfortune that the loft fell in, and he has no claims. V. Ges. H. Dict. s. v.

אזהרה f. (זהר) 1) forewarning, prohibition, esp. the explicit prohibition (tthou shalt nof) in the Bible, required for punishing trespassers. Y. Pesh I, 16a top ללהר א׳ a biblical admonition against calumny. Num. R. s. 7 (play on ara Num. XI, 20) לא׳ לכם והי׳ it shall be a warning to you. Yeb. 3b וכ׳ שמענו א׳ we learn here the legal prohibition, whence do we derive the penalty? a. fr. -- Pl. אזהרות. Kerith. III, 10; a. fr. -- 2) enlightenment. Cant. R. to VII, 3, v. אדר. אזהרתא, אזהרא ch. as foreg. 1. Shebu. 20b מה׳ ואזהרתיה and the legal prohibition concerning it, is to be derived from this verse. -- Pl. אזהרן. Y. אזובא, איזובא ch. same. Targ. Ex. XII, 22; a. e.
אזור, איזור c. (b. h.; אזר) girdle, belt. M. Kat. 14a וכ׳ איזורו his girdle (around his house-gown) testifies for him (that he has no more than the shirt he is washing). Tosef. Shebu. V, 12 sq.; a. e. -- Pl. אזורים, איז׳. Gen. R. s. 100 וכ׳ מתניהם אזורי they loosened the girdles of their loins (in mourning sympathy). [Ch. זריז.]

אזי, אזא (=אזעי, v. אודרתא a. זיע) to heat (make steam). Dan. III, 19; 22. -Targ. Is. XXXIII, 4 ואזן (Regiaאיזין) and they shall heat (baths, ovens) therewith (h. text משקrמשק), v. זירקתא; (cmp. Ezek. XXXIX, 9). Ib. XLIV, 15 (for baking); a. e. - Y. Ter. VIII, end, 46c a bath house וכ׳ דאזייה which he had heated for seven days. Koh. R. to II, 8; a. e. בהון אזיין דהוון that enter- tained the fires in them. -- Lev. R. s. 28, end מזגיה ועל וקנחיה (read ואזייה Pa.) and he (Haman) went and made him sweat and cleansed him (with the scraper). Ithpe. אתזי (contr. of אתאזי) to be heated. Gen. R. s. 63 וכ׳ דיתזון אנא קלוון I command that the bath-houses be heated. Ib. ואתזון אזלון they went off, and the bath- houses were heated (some ed. דיחמון a. אחמון).

אזינא m., pl. אזינין (זין) weapons, א׳ בית receptacle of weapons, quiver. Targ. Jer. V, 16. Targ. Is. XLIX, 2 (ed. Ven. אזנין). V. Targ. to Deut. XXIII, 14 אזנך.
*אזיק (Af. of אזק, v. חזק, עזק) to tie up. Koh. R. to VIII, 1 לרישי א׳ I have to tie up my head. (Yalk. Koh. 77 דחיק, Vers. אדיק; Y. Pes. X, 37 רישיה חזיק his head was tied; cmp. Ned. 49b.)
אזכרה f. (b. h.; = הזכרה, זכר) 1) remembrance, mention (of Div. Name), recitation (of prayer); reference. Y. Ber. V, 9b מריוח שהיא א׳ the reference to rain (in the second section of the eighteen benedictions) which is an expression of satisfaction (plenty), opp. שאלה, the prayer for rain (in the ninth benediction) which is an expression of anxiety. - Y. Meg. III, 74b top אזכרתן שתהא וכ׳ קודם that the recitation (of the events commemorated on Purim) precede the celebration thereof. -- 2) (v. אדכרה) the Divine Name, etragrammaton. Num. R. s. 2, beg. the students וכ׳ הא׳ את מראים point out the Div. Name with their fingers; Cant. R. to II, 4 הא׳ על מדלג skips the Div. Name in recitation of lessons. -- Pl. אזכרות.
