*אליקי, אלעיקי (a disguise of אלהים for the pur- pose of avoiding the utterance of the divine name, cmp. אלוה) by Godt forsooth (ironically). Pesik. Bahod. p. 104a בה תובע אני אלי׳ Ar. (ed. אהא אל, Ms. Oxf. אליקי איני) forsooth, I shall propose to her, l. e. do you believe I shall &c. ? Cant. R. to I, 4 וכ׳ נותן אני אלעי׳ forsooth (do you believe) I shall give &c. [V. אליתא or אליתא f. (cmp. אלה, אלון &c.) 1) fig- tree (of a certain species). -- א׳ ברת name of a fig species. Gen. R. s. 15, end וכ׳ א׳ ברת Ar. (ed. אלי) it is called brath alitha (daughter of mourning, v. אליתא), because it has brought wailing and weeping into the world (as the fruit. of the tree of knnowledge). - 2) wood of the fig-tree, used as kindling wood on the altar (h. form אליתה). *אליתא, עליתא f. (pronunc. and meaning doubt- ful) litha, something supposed to render fire-proof or extinguish the fire. Snh. 108b שמה וא׳ אחד דבר לנו יש Ar. (ed. וע׳) we have something, its name is Ill. [perhaps to be read אחר דבר a (female) idol]; Yalk. Job 906 עיל׳, Ms. עליונה]. [B. Bath. 73a באלי׳ ליה ומחינן Ar.
