בזי, בזא II (=בזע q. v.) to break, divide. Part. pass. Pes. 110a בזייא דיקולא ed. (Ms. M. 2 בזיין דיקולי pl., v. Rashi a. l. a. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note) a broken basket. -- *Num. בזיונא, ביזיונא ch. same. Snh. 46b משום קבורה ב׳ is burial required in order to prevent disgrace (to the dead and his relatives)? Ib. כל לא הוא ב׳ משום א״א וכ׳ (Ms. M. כל . . דחיי ני . . .) if you say, burial is re- quired in order to prevent disgrace, he has no such power (as to prohibit it by his last will). Ib. 45a [read] בזיוניה וכ׳ עדיף דאינש (the prevention of) disgrace stands to man higher than bodily ease (absence of pain), i. e. one would rather suffer protracted agony than exposure; (Var. lect. v. בזיונא I, ביזיונא, זיונא ב, זיינא בי m. (בי a. זיונא; v. זוII a. זיינא I) place or means off deltention, whence 1) prison. Ber. 56a Ms., v. בדייני. Erub. 11b אבבא קם זיינא דבי Ar. (in ed. last two words omitted) placed him- self at the prison gate. -- Pl. בזיוני. Sabb. 32a (prov.) at the gate of shops (you have) many friends . . ., וכ׳ ב׳ אבב (Ms. Oxf. ב׳ אבי) at the prison gate-- no friends &c. -- 2) (pl. as a sing. noun) lock, clasp, buckle. בזיונא, II m. (בזי II, v. Nold. Mand. Gr. ~ 119) slit. - Pl. בזיוני, ביזייני. Ned. 56b; Snh. 20b a couch is called mittah, בב׳ ואפוקי אעולי when the straps go in and out through slits (incisions in the boards), contrad. tto אבקתא; (Ms. M. emendardion זיני בי, Ms. M. ביזייני; Ned. l. c. בזיני; v. Rashi to Snh. l. c.).
