השלחה f. (שלח), יד השלהת stretching forth ofhand, Divine punishment. Lev. R. s. 20; Num. R. s. 2 (ref. to EEx. XXIV, 11) יד לה׳ ראויין שהיו מכאן from here we learn that they would have deserved punishment at that time. V. השתלחת.
השלכה f. (שלך, Hif.) casting away by the side of tthe altar (Lev. I, 16). Sifra Vayikra, N'dab., Par. 7, ch. IX וכ׳ בה׳ אותה אותה 'it intimates, only it (the bird sacrifice) is subject to the rule, 'And he shall cast' &c.
השלמה f. (שלם) completion. Naz. 8b כלל ה׳ הוי מי how could he ever have finished the days of vowd nazirate - Esth. R. to III, 7 וכ׳ החומה השלמת the com- pletion of the wall of Jerusalem. -- Y. B. Mets. VII, beg. 11b, v. השכמה.
השמד (Indn. Hif. of שמד) [extermination,] Hashmed, allegorical name of an angel of justice. Ex. R. s. 41, end; s. 44; Midr. Till. to Ps. VII; a. fr.; (Deut. R. s. 3 (מכלה).
השמדה f. (precel.) extermination, use of the rerb ד ש. Lev. R. s. 7; s. 10.
השמה f (שום, Hif.), עין השמת putting an cye upon, paying kind attention to Gen. R. s. 93 [readn] ה׳ היא זו עינים לסמיות הדבר נהפך שאמרת ע׳ is this the kindness thou hast promised (Gen. XLIV, 21)? This is blindness; (Yalk. Gen. 150 כימת).
השמט m. (Inf. Hif. of שמט, v. Deut. XV, 3) can- celling, esp. כספים ה׳ cancelling of (cash) debts in the Sabbatical year. Y. Shebi. X, 39c bot.; Y. Gitt. IV, 45d bot., sq. Y. Macc. I, 31a bot. הוא כספים כה׳ it is, like a cash debt, forfeited by limitation.
השמטה f. same. Y. R. Hash. III, 53d bot. השמטת כספים. Arakh. 4a קרקע ה׳ the return of landed property to the seller in the year of the jubilee. Kidd. 38b כ׳ ה׳ הוא הגוף חובת the remission of cash debts is a personal obligation (not dependent on the land of Palestine); a. fr.

השפלה f. (שפל) lowering, removal from office. Gen. R. s. 96 ה׳ לשון אלא מות ואין death (Koh. VIII, 8) means removal &c. Ex. R. s. 45 השפלתי, v. הגבהה; Lev. R. s. 1; a. e.
השפע m. (Inf. Hif. of שפע) plenty, liberality. Esth. R. to X, end.
השקאה, v. השקיה.
השקה f. (שק, Hi.) [causing contact,] dipping of a vessel, filled with an unclean liouid, so as to make its surface level with the surface of the water into iwhich it is dipped, a ceremony of levitical purification, contrad. to הטבלה, immersion. Bets. 18a הטבלה אטו ה׳ נגזור let. us prohibit levelling as a precaution against immersion (on tthe Holy Days). lIb.b ה׳ קשיא the Mishnah permitting hashshakah is contradictory (to what Rabbi said in the Boraitha). Hull. 26b למיא ה׳ להו סלקא לא the hash. will not affect the liquid (in the vessel).
השקיה, השקייה, השקאה . (קהה, Hic) gie ing to drink, esp. (סוטה השקיית) handing the bitter water to the suspected wife (Num. V, 24). Meg. II, 7 (20b) וכ׳ ולהשקיית (Ms. M. ולהשקות, Ms. L. להשקאת, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note). Y. Sot. III, 18d top לה׳ סמוכה מחיקה the blotting out must be immediately followed by the giving to drink. Snh. 87a השקאת; a. fr.
השקפה f. (שקף, Hif.) the looking down, the use of the verb השקיף. Y. Maas. Sh. V, 56c bot. ארירה. . . ה׳ כל וכ׳ (not ארורה) wherever in the Torah hishkif is used, it means curse (punishment), but this (Deut. XXVI, 15) means blessing. Tosef. ib. V, 25 'from thy holy dwelliny' וכ׳ ה׳ מקום זו ed. (ed. Zuck. השקיפה קדשך ממעון) that is the place of looking down, i. e. hashkifah (Deut. l. c.) refers only to 'thy holy dwelling, and bless' to 'from (the store of) the heavens '. J
