חילה (=חול II, dance, song; rejoicing. Midr. Till. to Ps. XI,VIII, 14 לשירה לח׳ ד״א another interpretation (v. חייל), 'helah (Ps. l. c.) means, to song; הקב״ה עתיד וכ׳ ח׳ לעשות, v. חולה II. -- Deut. R. s. 1 (ref. to התחולל Ps. XXXVII, 7) when affictions befall thee, בח׳ אותן קבל receive them with rejoicing; (Yalk. Ps. 729 כחוללים like dancers).

חילוי, חל׳ m. (חלה, Pi.) sweetening, softening; trnsf. entreaty, hilluy, one of the expressions for prayer (v. זעקה). Ex. R. s. 43 (ref. to ויחל, Ex. XXXII, 11) ח׳ לשון it means sweetening. -- Yalk. Deut. 81 1; Yalk. Sam. 157; (Sifre Deut. s. 26 חילול, corr. acc.).
חילול, חל׳ m. (חלל) 1) desecration, defamation. Y. Shebu. VI, end, 37b שבועה ח׳ the desecration com- mitted by an unnecessary oath. Sabb. 33a, a. fr. שבת ח׳ desecration of the Sabbath; השם ח׳ defamation of the Name of the Lord, disgracing the.lewish religion. Yoma S6a השם ח׳ ה״ד what act, for instance, would be a profana- tion &c. -- Kidd. 40a וכ׳ בח׳ מקיפין אין, v. נקף I, II. Ber. 19b; a. fr. -- 2) redemption of sacred objects, secular- ization. חילוף, חל׳ m. (חלף) 1) exchange, relief.- Pl. חיליפים, חילופין those who relieve. Ber. III, 1 the carriers וחילופיהן וכ׳ וחילופי and those designated to relieve them, and those who are to relieve the relief. --- Gen. R. s. 91 רש ח׳ להם can be replaced; (Y. Ber. II, 5c חליפין). Num. R. s. 10 (ref. to חלוף, Prov. XXXI, 8) אביהם חלופי שהן for they take the place of their father; a. fr. -- 2) the contrary, reverse. Ab. Zar. 46b ח׳ או is it not rather the reverse?; (Y. Taan. III, 67a חלף או); Y. Ab. Zar. V, 45b top; a. fr. -- הדברים ח׳ the things are just the reverse. Ab. Zar. 51b. Y. Ter. II, 41c bot.; a. fr. -- Pl. as ab. Y. חילוק, חל׳ m. (חלק) 1) distribution. Keth. II, 1 וכ׳ קליות ח׳ ttestifying to the distribution of roasted ears (at the wedding) is an evidence (of the bride having been a virgin). Tosef. ib. III, 1 גרנות ח׳ taking a share at the distribution of priest's gifts of the threshing floor; a. fr. -- 2) division, separation, specification. Y. Sabb. VII, end, 9c bot. לח׳ . . . . יצא it was specified, after being implicitly intimated, for division of the general law, i. e. that each of the implied acts is punishable for itself.
