סירה, סירא II f. (cmp. זירה, a. סהר a. b. h. סהר) surrounded place, court, prison. Cant. R. to VI, 11 מה וכ׳ באמצע והס׳ אגוז as the nut has four store-houses (v. מגורה) and a court (vacant space) in the centre &c. Sifra Emor, ch. II, Par. 3; Bekh. VI, 2 (expl. תבלל, Lev. XXI, 20) וכ׳ בס׳ הפוסק לבן the white of the eye breaking through the ring and entering the black; ib. 38b הפוסק הס׳ את. Gen. R. s. 41, beg.; s. 52, end ואני לס׳ חון אאברהם הס׳ בתוך נתונה (Sarah says) Abraham is outside of the prison and Iam placed within it (at Pharaoh's court). Ib. s. 42 וכ׳ בס׳ אותו נתנו they put him (Lot) into an enclosure and took him with them.

סירוג, סר׳ m. (סרג) plaiting, strapping. Y. M. Kat. I, 80d bot. (expl. מסרגין, ib. I, 8) וערב שתי ס׳ strapping a. bedstead means length--and breadthwise; (anoth. opin.) ערב או שתי או ס׳ strapping means either lengthwise &c. Bab. ib. 27a מתוכו סירוגו has the strapping inside (through slits in the frame); גבה על סירוגה the strapping over the frame. -- Pll. סירוגים, סירוגין, סרר׳ (adv., with or without prepos.) strapwise, in intervals, with interruption. Meg. II, 2 ס׳ קראה if one read the M'gillah in intervals (pausing between passages). Tosef. R. Hash. IV (III), 9 וכ׳ בס׳ אפו׳ (ed. סירוס, סר׳ m. (סרס) 1) castration, mutilation. Kidd. 25a הס׳ אף castration of a slave also entitles him to his liberty. Sabb. 110b; a. fr. -2) breakingtheline, irregularity. B.
