Pi. סינן to clear, filter; (of metals) to smelt, refine. Sabb. XX, 2 וכ׳ היין את מסנין you may (on the Sabbath) fllter wine through a cloth &c. Hull. 67a שסיננן יבחושין gnats in liquids which one has passed through a filter; a. e. -- Part. pass. מסונן refined, bright. Num. R. l. c. (expl. מפז, v. supra) פוזז . המס׳ הזהב the refined gold which he wore made a rustling noises. Nithpa. נסתנן, Hithpol. הסתונן to be refined. Ib. s. 7, beg. וכ׳ ממנו הפסולות נסתננו when the base metals are removed from it (the silver) by refining, it shows at once &c. Pesik. R. s. 14 (ref. to Ps. XII, 7) [read;] כשם וכ׳ ומסתונן ומצטרף ... שהכסף as tthe silver to be smelted enters the crucible and is smelted and refined etc.; היא כך וכ׳ מסתוננת התורה so is the Law refined and smelted (through study) in forty-nine ways.

סנסן II f. (b. h. סנסנים pl.; v. סנן) [prick,] the pointed ribbed leaf of the palm tree. Snh. 93a (ref. to Cant. VII, 9) אחה ס׳ אלא בידי עלתה לא (v. Rashi) Ican claim as mine only one eaf (of the palm Israel) tthat of Hanania &c.; Yalk. Cant. 992 סנסגה. -- Pl. מנסנים. Num. R. s. 3, beg.] Gen. R. s. 41, beg.; Yalk. סנף (Saf. ofענף; v. סימפון) to interlace; to insert. Tosef. Keth. VII, 10 המומין בין וסנפו אחר מום בה היה if she had another blemish, and he in his enumeration had inserted it among the blemishes (which she really did not have, so as to make believe that she was also free from that blemish); Tosef. B. Bath. IV, 5, sq.; B. Mets. 80a (אחד for אחר). V. סניף.

סנפיר f. (b. h.; =סנפיר; ספר with anorganic ג; cmp. סמפורין, ספיר &c.) fns. Hull. III, 7. Nidd. VI, 9 יש . . כל ס׳ לו every fish that has scales has also fins; לו שיש ויש וכ׳ ס׳ but some have fins but no scales. Sifra Shh'mini, ch. IV, Par. 3 אחת ס׳ אלא לו אין אפי׳ even if it has only one set of fins a. e. -- Pl. סנפירים, סנפירין, סנפר׳. Ib. המרבה ובס׳.. one that has more than one coat of scales and one set of fins. Ib. סנק (Saf. of אנק, ענק; cmp. Assyr. סנק, Del. Assyr. Handw.) to press, stuf. Tam. II, 1 וכ׳ אותן סונקין (Talm. ed. סולקין) they press them against the sides of the altar. Pi. סינק same. Mikv. II, 6 וכ׳ הטיט את המסנק if one presses the mud against the sides of the pool.
סנק ch., Pa. סנק same, esp. to stuff; [oth. opin.; to choke, cause loss of breath]. -- Part. pass. מסגק, (with ו emphat.) מסנקן. Pes. 3b מס׳ כגדי . . שויתינן you made that subject to us (as savory) as a stuffed kid; אחר כדבר כ׳ as a stuffed swine; [Ar. a. Rashi; this leseon made us (as tired) as a breathless kid, swine].

סנקליטוס, סינ׳, סונ׳ m. (~~~~~~~) 1) (- סנקליטיקוס) senator, councilor, counselor. Ex. RK. s. 46. -- Pl. סנקליטים, סנקליטין. Pesik. Zutr. Haaz. (ed. Bub. p. 113) (ref. to עתודים, Deut. XXXII, 14) שלהם ס׳ אלו that means their (the Roman) senators (sent to the provinces); (Sifre Deut. 317 סנקנירקים, Var. סנקירקים; Yalk. ib. 944 דקין סרקני). Y. Ber. סנקליטיקוס, סינ׳ m. (~~~~~~~) one of sen- atorial rank, senator. Ex. R. s. 28 וכ׳ ס׳ לפלוני קרא call such and such a senator that he may come with you.
