*סעותא f. (נסע; cmp. נס a. נסע) = סחותא, sweepings. Pesik. Asser, p. 95b וכ׳ דביתך סעותיה מן Ar. (ed. Bub. פחותיה) out of the sweepings of thy house thou mightest give me so much; [Tanh. *סער I (emp. סור) to go around; to visit. Sabb. 12b החולה את סוער שהקביה מנין Ms. M. (Ar. סר; ed. ששהשכינה סועד) whence s it proven that the Lord visits he sicck-- Answ. ref. to יסעדנו (Ps. XLI, 4), [tto which is added in Ar.; יסערגו ביה קרי read it yisarennu 'shall visit him].

סער II (b. h.; cmp. ערר) to be rough; to be in com- motion. Pi. סיער to stir up, to blow. Kil. V, 7 הרוח וסיערתו לאחריו and the wind drove the seed backward; Tosef. ib.; III, 12 סייתו, סייעתו, הסעורתו ed. Zuck. (corr. acc., v. infra). B. Bath. 25a (ref.to שעירם, Deut. X XXII, 2) וכ׳ ששמסערת. . זו that is the east wind which stirs up the whole world like a sfiir (demon); [Sifre Deut. 306 וכ׳ שמשחיר; Yalk. ib. 942 שמשחרת which makes the sky black like goats. סערה I f. (b. h.; סער II) storm-wind; (hypostatised) the wind bag. Hag. 12b בס׳ רוח the wind rests on the storm, for we read (Ps. CX LVIII, 8) as to the wind (ruah), storum does its bidding; וכ׳ תלויה ות׳ (not תלוי) and the storm de- pend son the arm of the Lord; Yalk. Am. 543; Yalk. Ps. 883; Y. Hag. II, beg. 77a בס׳ תלויה הרוח the ruah depends on the s'hrah; וכ׳ כמין הקביה עשאה וס׳ and the Lord has made the s arah a sort of charm and suspended it on his arm; a. e.
סערה II (v. שערה= (סער, hair. B. Bath. 16a (ref. to שערה, Job IX, 17, a. סערה b. XXXVIII, 1) חירף בס׳ איוב השיבוהו ובס׳ Job when blaspheming used the word s' arah (stormm, anger), . .and he was answered with s arab, for we read, And the Lord answered Job (by argument) from the s(symbol characters)arah (the hair of man), v. נימה; Nidd. 52a וכ׳ בס׳ חירף בשערה.
