ספדנא ch. same. M. Kat. 8a וכ׳ ס׳ הדר כד whenever, in Palestine, a wailer comes around, they say, let all those who are of a bitter heart (mourning for a relative) weep with him (engage him for wailing). Ib. 25a עליה פתח ס׳ ההוא the wailer on the occasion began thus; Hag. 15b; a. fr. -- Pl. ספדניא, ספדני. Taan. 5b בכייא בכו בכדי וכי וכ׳ ס׳ וספדו Ms. M., was it for nought that the weepers wept, and the wailers wailed &c.? Yeb. 121b הוו ס׳ וכן כן התם such and such wailers officiated there.
ספה f., pl. ספות (b. h.; v. סף) bowls, moulds of glass- ware. Tosef. Kel. B. Bath. VII, 7שלהן הס׳ מן משינטלו as soon as they are taken out of their moulds.
ספוג, v. סיפוג.
ספוג m. (ספג, cmp. ספח) a porous lhxuriant growth, mushroom; ponge, any sponge-like material; wiper. Y. Sabb. VII, 10a (in Chald. dict.) וכ׳ ס׳ דגזז ההן he who cuts mushrooms etc. (on the Sabbath) is guilty of the acts of harvesting and of planting (the cutting being the means of advancing the growth). B. Kam. 115b; Succ. 50a; Yalk. Md. 587 וכ׳ לס׳ דומה. . ארס the venom of the serpent (on top of liquids) resembles a fungus (Ar.; a veil-like growth on the head of a certain sea-fish) and remains foating &c.; (Y. Ter. VII, 45d bot. כסבכה עומד, v. סבכה). Kel. IX, 4 וכ׳ שבלע ס׳ a mushroom which has absorbed unclean liquids, though it is dry on the outside etc. Sabb. XXI,3 וכ׳ עוי לו יש אם ס׳ a sponge (used for sucking up liquids), if it has leather handles etc. Tosef. ib. V (VI), 3 המכה שעג ס׳ an absorbent substance (wool) put on a. wound. Y. ib. XVII, 15c top יבש ס׳ עליה ונתן and he put on it a dry sucker (compress); Lev. R. s. 15; Lam. R. to IV, 20; a. fr. -- Ab. V, 15 וכ׳ סופג שהוא ס׳ (a scholar indis- criminately cramming his mind is called) a sponge, be- cause he absorbs every thing. - Pl. ספוגים, ספוגין. Y. Yeb. XVI, 15d top ס׳ לחוך רצו (divers) wanted to cut sponge. Sabb. 129b צמר ששל ס׳ tufts of wool; (Tosef. ibb. XVXVI), 3 כסות). Ab. Zar. 18a וכ׳ צמר של ס׳ הביאו they took tufts of wool, soaked them with water, and put them on his heart; a. e. - [mto~, 7~םt seems to be of Semitic origin.]

ספור m. (ספר), pl. ספורים, ספורין the days which have to be counted (Lev. XV, 28), legal calculation. Nidd. 30a דידה ס׳ לה שלימו her account is completed. Ib. ס׳ בעינן בפנינו we (the judges) require the count before us, i. e. we count from the first day of her appearance before the ritual court; ib. 69a.
ספורא m. (ספר Pa.) hair-cutting; ס׳ מאני barber's tools. Lev. R. s. 28, end ספוריה מאני אפיק he took out his barber tools; ib. ספוריה מאניא אונון ואילין (read; מאני) and these are his (thy father's) tools; Yalk. Esth. 1058 דידך ספפריא אינון ואילין and these are thy scissors; Esth. R. to VI, 10 דידיה ספרא מאני ואשכחת and thou shalt find his tools.
ספורה f. (b. h. ספרה; ספר) number. - Pl. ספורות. Y. Shek. V, beg. 48a (ref. to IChr. II, 55 they are named So- f'rim, ס׳ ס׳ התורה את שעשו because they arranged the Law by numbers (as in Ter. I, 1; Sabb. VII, 2 etc.); Yalk. Chr. 1074 ספירות.
ספורייא, ס׳ כפר pr. n. pl. K'far Sippuraya (Es-Sa- firiye), near Lydda (Neub. Geogr. p. 81). Y. Kidd. III, 64d bot. [read] ס׳ בכ׳ הורי.
ספח (b. h.) to grow, swell, be added to. Pi. ספח 1) to add, esp. (of a river) to cast out alluvial soil, make new land Gen. R. s. 13 למדינה שמסח הנהר על וכ׳ when a river ameliorates the soil of a district, we say the blessing etc.; Y. Ber. IX, 14a מספיק (corr. acc.). - 2) to join, conspire. Tanh. Thazr. 11 (play on ספחת, Lev. XIII,) וכ׳ עם מספח המן שהיה Haman conspired with Ahasver to destroy etc. -- 3) (v. סחת) to smite with sores. Pesik..Vat-- tom., p. 133a (ref. to ופח, Is. III, 17) צרעת אלא ספח ואין sippah means striking with leprosy; Tanh. l. c. ושפח אין וכ׳; Lev. R. s. 16 בצרעת הלקן. Nithpa. נספח to attach one's self, become a citigen. Ruth R. to I, 1 end וכ׳ ונסתפהו ישראל שהניחו they left Is- rael and became citizens in the fields of Moab.

ספחת f. (b. h.; ספח) rising on the skin, sore. Sifra. Thazr., Neg., ch. I(ref. to Lev. XIII, 2) לשאת שני ס׳ (not לבהרת) sappahath is secondary to (is a species of) seth. Ib.; Shebu. 6b טפילה אלא ס׳ אין the word sappahath itself intimates an attachment tto somethingt(ref. to Sam.I,36). Yeb. 47b; 109b, a. e. בעור כס׳ לישראל גרים קשים proselytes are as bad to Israel as a sore on the skin (ref. to ונספחו, 1s. XIV, 1).
