צדקן m. (preced. wds.) 1) acting justly; 2) charitable. Sabb. 156a צ׳ גבר יהי דבצדק מאן האי he that was born under the planet Tsedek will be a right-doing man; eapl. במצוות צ׳ a charitable man (v. מצוה).
צדקנית f. (preced.) pious, virtuous, charitable. - Pl. צדקניות. Y. Snh. X, end, 29d; Bab. ib. 112a; Arakb. 7b שער צ׳ נשים the hair of pious women (in a condemned city, v. נדח). Ex. צהב (b. h.; cmp. זהב) 1) to be bright, shine. Men. 18a וכ׳ פניו צהבו the face of R. J. brightened up (with joy); Hull. 7b; a. e. - Part. pass. צהוב; pl. צהובין. Ned. 49b היום צ׳ פניך thou lookest bright to-day. - V. צהוב. -- 2) (cmp. כרכם) to be defiant. Sifre Deut. 309 כנגד וצוהב עומד היה וכ׳ stood up and insulted a senator in the street; Yalk. ib. 942. -- Part. pass. as ab. yealous, angry. Snh. 105a שני לזה זה צ׳ . . . (Ms. O. a. צהיבה f. (צהב) jealousy, anger. Mekh. Mishp. 6; Yalk. Ex. 331 (ref. to Ex. XXI, 18) וכ׳ מביאה שהצ׳ מגיד this intimates that ill-will may lead to death.
צהיר, v. צהר.
צהל (b. h.) to be bright, shine; (of sound) to shout. Pi. ציהל to shout; (of horses) to neigh. Pesik. R. s. 27 28 וכ׳ אחריהם מצהלות והם and they (the women) neighed after them like war--horses. Hif. ההיל 1) to be bright, shining. Gen. R. s. 97 beg. יצא מצהילות ופניו he came forth with a shining face. - 2) to brighten, illumine. Pesik. R. s. 20 כחמה . .. שמצהיל אברהם Abraham who illumined the whole world like the sun.
צהל ch. same, to be bright, glad; to shout. Targ. Esth. VIII, 15. -- Pesik. R. s. 14 וכ׳ אפוי ועהלין הבהיקו the face. of R. P. became bright and shining (Koh. R. to VIII, 1 זחלין, v. זחל II).
צהלה f. (preced.) 1) shouting, rejoicing. Num. R. s. 10 וכ׳ בית שמחת צהלת the joyful shouting at the dedication of the Temple &c.; Midr. Prov. to XXXI, 5, v. בלוזמא. Ib. וכ׳ ומשחקת צ׳ והיתה, read; וכ ושמחת ושמחה צ׳ והיתה and there was shouting and joy (on account of the daughter of Pharaoh) and the rejoicing over the dedication &c. -
