צוצילתא, v. צוצלא.
צוציתא f. (ציץ ch.; cmp. meanings of נץ a. ניצוץ) 1) דנורא צ׳ ray of light. B. Bath. 73a; Yalk. Is. 337; Yalk. Jer. 276 חוורתי דנ׳ צ׳ a ray of whitish light. Taan. 25a וכ׳ דנ׳ צ׳ נפיק a ray of light proceeded from his forehead; (Ms. M. also צצותא). Sabb. 56b דצ׳ נתן Nathan with the ray of light (a repentant sinner with a halo; oth. opin. whom an angel seized by his forelock, v. infra, afterwards known as (Mar) bkba, the Resh Galutha; v. Rashi to Snh. 31b). --2) forelock. Men. 42a וכ׳ צ׳ כי לפורדה וצריך (Ms. R. 2, a. Rashi ציעי׳) he must separate it (the show- fringe) like the forelock of the gentiles; Yalk. Num. 750 ציצו׳. -- 3) tail of a mouse. Sabb. 121b בצויתיה נקוטו ואפקוה (not ואפקיה) take it by its tail and carry it out; Bets. 36b (corr. acc.; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 50).
צוצל m. (v. next w.) dove. - Pl. צוצלין. Y. Pes. X, 37b bot. וצ׳ כסנים כגון . . . נשים women are cheered on the Holy Days with what is appropriate for them, e. g. roasted ears and doves; [comment. זצ׳ מסנים shoes and bright- colored garments.]
צוצלא, צוצילתא, צוצל׳ f. (=צלצל׳; לצלf a spc- cies of small tartle doves. B. Bath. 75a כביעתא השתא וכ׳ דצוצלא Ar. ed. Koh. (ed. ציצלא; Rashi צוצילתא; Ms. M. צלצלא; Ms. R. ציל׳; Ms. H. צילצולא; v. Rabb. I. S. a. l. note) we do not even find a jewel as large as the egg of a dove, and (you say) we shall find jewels of such sizes?; Snh. 100a צולשלא Ms. M. צוק I =תנק, to pour. Num. R. s. 9 (ref to Num. V, 15) וכ׳ הוא צק אבל but he may pour oil upon the leavings.
צוק II (b. h.) [to be narrow,] to be distressed, worry, V. next w. Hif. הציק to distress, affict. Snh.104b לישראל המציק כל וכ׳ whoever persecutes Israel, does never get tired (with ref. to Is. VIII, 23); Yalk. Is. 282. Snh. 94b, v. עיף; Yalk. Kings 237. Sifre Deut. 357 לו המציקין מציקים oppressors that will oppress him; a. e. -- V. מציק.
צוק ch. same. Y. Sabb. I, 3b bot. אנא רוח תצוק לא worry not (over the temptation to sin), I am a spirit (not a real woman).
צוק m. (preced.) narrow point, peak, precipice, esp. lTsok, the mountain from which the scapegoat was pre- cipitated. Yoma VI, 4, sq. Ib. 67b שבצ׳ ומניין and whence is it proved that the scapegoat must be led to a pre- cipitous place; a. e. -- Pl. צוקין. B. Mets. VII, 10; ib. 36b; a. e.
צוקתא f. (preced. wds.) distress, trouble. Targ. Y. I. Gen. XLII, 36 (some ed. צוקתא pl.).
צור I m. (b. h.; צהר; cmp. טור) rock. Ex. R. s. 15 ומצא גדול צ׳ שם and found there a large roclk; a. e. -- Pl, צורים. Ib. הללו הצ׳ על . . כאן here I will build the fortress, on. these rocks. -[Tosef. Pes. VII, 13 צוו שומרי ed. Zuck., read צירים, v. ציר II). -Trnsf. [Protection,] the Lord; (in Agadah. derived from יצר; v. next w.) the (reator. Ber. 5b (ref. to. Job XVVIII, 4) הקביה אלא צ׳ אין tsur means the Holy One &c. (with ref. to Deut. XXXII, 18). Lev. R. s. 23 (ref. to Deut. l. c.) יוצר . . התשתם you have weakened the power of the Creator. Pirke d'R. צור II (b. h.; cmp. ינר) [to turn,] 1) to tie around, wrap. B. Kam. 49b, a. e. וכ פי על לצור וכי does one want a docu- ment o tie around his flask?, i. e. does one care for a. paper except for the value it represents Koh. R. to VIII, 8 (ref. to Zech. XII, 1 ויצר) בגופו אדם של רוח צר he tied up the spirit of man in his body, v. צרר; a. e. - 2) to form, shape. Sabb. 75b בכלי צורה הצר he who draws a figure on a vessel. Ib. 103b כולו שיצור עד until he has drawn the entire figure which he intended to draw. Gen.
