- The practice of Supreme Court Justices “riding circuit” was not abolished until the Judiciary Act of 1891; before that date, Justice Swayne did indeed sit as a circuit justice and issued written opinions in that capacity. Tarmstro99 (talk) 18:05, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
