Description
English: Illustration for the poem "Faristan and Fatima: An Oriental Legend" by Edgar Alfred Bowring. Once a Week, Volume 3, page 379. Depicts the scene where Faristan (right), searching for his diappeared wife, finds her dressed in jewels and living in the harem of a prince (center). She refuses to recognize him as her husband and indeed, accuses him of having robbed her . This pair of illustrations was Du Maurier's first commission.
