This illustration is captioned "Skull of gorilla, or highest order of ape" and placed next to an illustration of a human skull captioned "Skull of lowest type of man;" the article remarks, "[B]etween the skull of the most debased tribe of mankind, and that of the highest ape, the difference is immense."
