rt Fisher, who graduated at the headof his class at Yale and is at present aprominent young attorney and the editorof the York Gazette; John Jameson, agraduate of Lehigh and at present an elec- trical engineer in Greater New York; andCharlotte. John Gibson was more than a lawyer orjudge, though it was in these capacitiesthat the fine energies of his mind and na-ture were mostly revealed. He was emi-nently endowed for either literary or relig-ious callings and had he chosen to entereither of these fields, he must have wroughtsuccess out of his abilities. The numerousliterary productions which he left, such asthe history of the county, reveal a flowing,graceful style. His devoutly religious na-ture was in a large part inherited from hisPresbyterian ancestry. It made him an ac-tive member of the church, foremost inmoral and spiritual movements in the com-munity, ever mindful and just on the benchand attuned his character to gentleness,sympathy and benevolence. FARQUHAR, the lead-ing manufacturer of York, Pennsyl-vania is of mixed Scotch, German and Eng-lish ancestry, and was born in MontgomeryCounty, Maryland, September 28th, 1838.He is a son of William Henry and Mar-garet (Briggs) Farquhar. The chain of lineage on both the paternaland maternal side has been honorable andconspicuous. His earliest ancestors be-longed to the historic coterie of ScottishChiefs, and was known as the Clan Farqu-har. William Farquhar, great-great-grandfather, emigrated from Scotland about theyear 1700, taking with him a number ofrehgious refugees, with whom he settled inFrederick County, Maryland. The mater-nal ancestor, Robert Brooke, of the Houseof Warwick, was born in London in 1602,and in 1635 married Mary Baker, daughterof Roger Mainwaring, the dean of Worces-ter.
