English: This is a melding of a piece-wise scan of a facsimile of the map Jefferson had engraved for use with the first edition of his Notes on the State of Virginia. The upper left corner of the facsimile was damaged. The reassembly of the pieces is a bit rough in places, particularly around Delaware. Jefferson's description from the upper right corner of the map: “A Map of the country between Albemarle Sound, and Lake Erie, comprehending the whole of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania, with parts of several others of the United States of America.________Engraved for the Notes on Virginia. The country on the eastern side of the Alleganey Mountains, is taken from [Joshua] Fry and [Peter] Jefferson's Map of Virginia, and Scull's Map of Pennsylvania, which were constructed chiefly on actual survey; that on the western side of the Alleganey, is taken from Hutchins, who went over the principal water courses, with a compass and log-line, correcting his work by observations of latitude: additions have been made, where they could be made on sure ground.” A low resolution copy of the map is available at http://www.pbs.org/jefferson/archives/documents/ih198142z.htm .
