Description
English: Illustration of the locomotive "Best Friend of Charleston," built at the West Point Foundry in 1830 for the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company. This was the first American-built locomotive in regular continuous service. It operated from January to June 1831, when it was destroyed by a boiler explosion.
