American patriotic song. It was composed by Phile in 1789 for the first inauguration of George Washington, and given the title "The President's March"; Hopkinson's lyrics were added in 1798. The song was used as an unofficial national anthem of the USA before 1931; it is now used as the ceremonial entrance march of the Vice President of the United States.
