Melbourne Advertiser (1838/1839)

The Melbourne Advertiser was the first newspaper published in Melbourne, in what was then known as Port Phillip District, now Victoria, Australia. It was published by John Pascoe Fawkner, a co-founder of Melbourne. The first edition appeared on 1 January 1838 and it ran until 1851.

The first ten issues were hand-written. On 6 February 1839, the newspaper was registered and renamed as Port Phillip Patriot and Melbourne Advertiser. It was renamed to Port Phillip Patriot and Morning Advertiser in 1845, to The Melbourne Daily News and Port Phillip Patriot in October 1848 and to The Melbourne Daily News in November 1848.
