Mun, Thomas, English merchant and political economist: b. London, England, June 1571; d. there July 1641 He engaged in mercantile business when very young, was interested in the Mediterranean trade and in 1615 was a director of the East India Company. As a writcr on economics he presents really the first clear and systematic treatment on the subject and his is admitted to have been of great influence. He published 'A Discourse of Trade, from England into the East Indies' in 1621, and his greatest work 'England's Treasure by Foreign Trade' was published posthumously in 1664.
