PREFACE
TO THE SECOND EDITION.
The favourable reception which has been accorded to the first edition of these outlines of the Muhammadan system has encouraged me to put forth a revised and enlarged edition. I am glad of the opportunity; for, the first edition contained numerous errors, consequent upon my bringing it out during a short and hurried visit to England, in the summer of 1875. Still, notwithstanding its numerous and manifest short-comings, it has been pronounced, by an eminent Arabic scholar, as not only "about the best outlines of Muslim faith he had seen"; but as having "the rare merit of being accurate."
