Old Miser.

IT's of an old miser in London did dwell,
He had an only daughter a sailor lov'd well;
And when the old miser was out of the way,
She'd always her sailor by night and by day.
As soon as the miser he heard of the news
Straightway to a captain he instantly goes,
Saying captain, O captain, good news I've to tell,
I've got a young sailor as a transport to sell.
As soon as the lady she heard of the news,
Straightway to a captain she instantly goes,
Saying captain, bold captain, bad news I've to tell,
You've got my young sailor as a transport to sell.
She out of her packets drew handfuls of gold
And on the main deck it immediately roll'd,
Saying captain, bold captain, all this I'll give you,
For my jolly young sailor, my right & my due
O no, said the captain, that never can be,
Your sailor was sold to me the other day,
I've sent your love a sailing right over the main
He'll ne'er come to England to court you again
O my cruel father he has ruined me,
He's sent my love sailing right over the sea,
Whilst full of despair all alone I remain,
He'll ne'er come to England to court me again
O my cruel parents, wherever they be,
I'm sure in my heart they have quite ruin'd me.
I'll away to yon cottage, and lay myself down
And all the live long night for my sailor I'll moan.

Swindells, Printer.
