On my Joyful Departure from the same City (1828)

Written in 1828 and first published in Friendship's Offering, 1834 it was first collected in The Poetical Works of S.T. Coleridge, 1834. When first published it was headed An Expectoration, or Splenetic Extempore, on my joyful departure froni the City of Cologne and was followed by the Expectoration the second (See Cologne). The alternate heading has also been used in some later published collections.

    As I am rhymer,
And now at least a merry one,
    Mr. Mum's Rudesheimer
    And the church of St. Geryon
    Are the two things alone
    That deserve to be known
In the body and soul-stinking town of Cologne.
