Groves I loved, all dressed in green,
You that once my joy have been,
Once you comforted my heart
And filled me with delight.
Now for me the birds so long
Sing no more a joyous song,
Sadly now the clouds above
Have darkened all my sight.

A handkerchief there came to me,
A flower at each extremity,
And, in the midst, a wreath of green,
Entwined with rosemary.
Little wreath of rosemary,
Woven out so prettily,
This, for love, my sweetheart sent,
To joy and comfort me.
