נקט (cmp. לקט) to hold in hand, take, seize. [נקטה Pesik. B'shall., p. 81b; Yalk. Ex. 225, v. קוט.] Pi. ניקט to cause to hold, to procure. Ex. R. s. 1 ומנמט וכ׳ שני להם (some ed. ומלקט) and provided for them two balls (breast-shaped stones); (Sot. 11b ומלקט; Yalk. Ex. 164 ומלקט; Yalk. Ez. 354 ונותן).
ננקט ch. same (corresp. to h. אחז). Targ. Esth. VI, 1; a. fr. -- Part. act. גקיט, pass. נקיט holding. Ib. VIII, 15; a. fr. - Shebu. 38b וכ׳ חפצא ׳ he held an object in his hand (on being sworn). Ab. נקי, נקה (b. h.) [to be rubbed of, be white,] to be clean, clear (cmp. זפה). i. ניקה 1) to cleanse. Ex. R. s. 1 אותם ומנקה and cleansed them (the new-born); Yalk. ib. 164; Yalk. Ez. 354; (Sot. 11b מנקיו). B. Kam. 93b וניקהו פשתן if he stole flax and cleansed (bleached) it; Tosef. ib. X, 2; a. e 2) to clear, let go unpunished. Yoma S6a (ref. to Ex. XXXIV, 7) וכ׳ הוא מנקה he clears the repentant sinners &c. Tem. 3b. Pesik. R. s. 42 שרה את לנקות כדי in order to clear Sarah (from suspicion); a. fr. -- Part. pass. נוקה, pll. מנוקין clear, clean, bare. Snh. 49a מגזל מכ׳ innocent of robbery. Sot. 28a. Snh. 36b, a. e. מנ׳ . . בצדק מ׳ שבד כשם מום מכל as the judges must be clear (from suspicion) as to righteousness, so must they be clear of every blemish (of descent). Gitt. 86a מום מכל מ׳ free from all objection- able qualities; a. e. Nif. נקה, ניקה, Hithpa. התנקה to be cleared, vindicated. Tosef. Sot. II, 3 וכ׳ פורעניות מכל נקתה ונקתה שנ׳ (v. ed. Zuck. note) the text says (Num. V, 28) 'and she shall be cleared', she shall be cleared (released) from all the evils which might come upon her deservedly (because she gave rise to suspicion through her conduct). Ib. ניוולה שניקללה (Var. שניקל) read; בניוולה שניקתה she is released from further visitation (being sufficiently punished) by ber exposure to disgrace. Pesik. R. l. c. מתנקת . . היאך by what severe means has Sarah been vindicated1 יHif. הנקה to clear, remove. Kidd. 62a (ref. to הנקי, Num. V, 19) כתיב הנקי it may be read hanki, clear thy life out of thy body (die, if thou art guilty); v. חנק.
נקי, קא ch. same. [Targ. Prov. XVII, 6, v. בקא.] Pa. נקי to cleanse, clear. Targ. Is. I, 25. -- Keth. 87a נפשךבשבועתא נקו clear thyself by means of an oath. Part. pass. מנקי. Ib. משבועתא מנקית thou art free from the obligation of an oath. Hhpa. אתנקא, אתנקי to be cleansed. Targ. Ez. XVI, 4; v. נכר II.
נקי I m. (b. h.; preced.) clean, clear; bare. Tosef. Toh. III, 8, opp. מלוכלך. Pes. 22b (ref. to Ex. XXI, 28) as one says to his neighbor מנכסיו ׳ פלוני יצא that man went out of his possessions empty-handed; B. Kam. 41a. Ib,bV כופר מחצי ׳ free from paying the half-fine. Taan. 23a (ref. to Job XXII, 30) וכ׳ נ׳ היה שלא דור thou hast saved with thy prayer a generation which was not clear from sin. Y. Meg. I, 71c; Y. Ber. II, 4d top (ref. to Koh.
