XVI, 29) and Samson clasped &c. - 2) (cmp. כרך) to wrap up, to insert, combine (dishes). -Part. pass. לפות, pl. לפותין. Koh. R. to VII, 7 (expl. לפתן) תבשילין שני בזה זה ל׳ two messes combined. לפת ch., Pa. לנת as preced. Pi. Bets. 16a דמלפת מידי בעינן (Alf. דמילפת) something used as a relish is required, מלפתא לא ופת (Ms. M. מילפת, AIf. מיעפתא) whereas bread is not used for that purpose. Ihpe. אילפת to be used as לפפתא; v. supra.
לפת f. (v. preced. wds.) something which goes with bread; vegetables. Ber. 44b, v. בית 4. --- Gen. R. s. 15 חד היתה פת לא aלפ אמר one says lefeth was lopath (no food of man before he sinned, i. e. bread fully seasoned grew out of the ground, and no relish was required); להיות עתידה היא פת לא ל׳ lefeth will be no food, in the Messianic days; Y. Ber. VI, 10a bot.; Tanh. Ekeb [read;] פת לא לעשות עתידה אלא פת היתה אומר והאחד (with ref. to בר פסת, Ps. LXXII, 16; cmp. Sabb. 30b, Midr. Till. to Ps. OIV, 12). -- Esp. lefeth, turnip. Kil. I, 3. לץ ליץ m. (b. h.; לוץן) scorner, scoffer, frivolous person. ( Pl. לצים, לי׳. Sot. 42a ל׳ כת the class of scorners. Snb. 101a, v. כגור; a. fr. -- ל׳ מושב (Ps. I, 1) scorners gathering, bad company. IX, 8 הל׳ מן נפרעת והיא. . . מכר if her husband sold his property to strangers, and she wants to collect (her K'thubah) from the sold property (sues the purchaser). B. Mets. 12b כדין שלא ל׳ למיטרף ואתי and he might seize the sold property unlawfully. - B.
